Examination of map reading skills with orienteering activity: An example of Many Facet Rasch Model

The purpose of the current study is to examine map reading skills Social Studies pre-service teachers with orienteering, which an activity-based and more active practice. To this end, a total 10 students attending Department Teaching in Education Faculty Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University taking course Map Skills Applications were selected. An analytical rubric consisting four criteria scored categories was used collect data study. content validity developed calculated Davis Technique it thought that sufficient evidence obtained for validity. During orienteering activity, by 5 raters terms criteria, direction/location, recognizing signs/symbols, using landforms managing time. They examined many-facet Rasch model (MFRM). evaluated according severity/leniency difficulty exhibiting behavior. results analysis showed agreement between found be good. It also concluded most difficult skill determining direction/location easiest landforms.
